After 35 years of ministry, John Arnott has formally handed over leadership of Catch The Fire World and Catch The Fire Toronto. Officially, Duncan Smith is now President of the Catch The Fire World board and Steve Long is now President of the Catch The Fire Toronto board. John and Carol Arnott remain as the Founding Pastors of Catch The Fire.
John Arnott explains, “after carefully seeking the Lord, Carol and I feel that the time has come to hand over vital aspects of our ministry to our spiritual sons and daughters who have faithfully, lovingly and diligently served our vision and ministry for a great many years.”
The first announcement is the passing of the baton for leadership of Catch The Fire World, the global ministry and church planting movement. At the recent Catch The Fire World board meeting Duncan Smith was elected as the President of the board by unanimous agreement. Duncan & Kate Smith have been Senior Leaders/Pastors of Catch the Fire Raleigh for seven years and served Catch The Fire in Toronto as Executive Director, and Youth Network Leaders, planting the Central Campus 10 years ago. In 2008 they left Toronto, after eight years, to plant the first Catch The Fire Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.
Secondly, Steve Long has been given leadership of Catch The Fire Toronto - the flagship church and birthplace of the movement. Steve Long was voted in as President of the board. Steve & Sandra have been functioning as the Senior Leaders/Pastors of the church for ten years and have been serving the ministry for over 21 years where they have been very active in planting new congregations in Toronto and in Canada.
Finally, Stuart & Chloe Glassborow, founders and pastors of Catch The Fire London, have been invited to join the senior leadership team of Catch The Fire World. This team is now Duncan & Kate Smith, Steve & Sandra Long and Stuart & Chloe Glassborow. John & Carol Arnott will continue in their role as Founding Pastors with this team.
Though he is coming to the close of his 75th year, John Arnott takes time in his personal letter (linked below) to clarify that he has no intention of “going anywhere” and will “remain on both Boards mentioned as a Vice-President.” John also said that “Carol and I are looking forward to coaching them, encouraging them and cheering them on, while at the same time having a bit more time for family and friends.” There is certainly a sense of excitement and anticipation as these changes position the ministry for greater growth and effectiveness in the years to come.
