Finally, it’s summertime. The weather warms up, we spend much more time outdoors, and life seems to slow down. There’s not a much better way to spend a relaxing afternoon than sitting in the sunshine (or an air-conditioned lounge) reading and contemplating.

Vacation is also a great time to make space for God to speak to you, work in your heart, and transform you. We’ve picked out a list of new and top-rated books that will impact your life and faith walk this summer.

Grace and Forgiveness

This book has been gaining momentum and popularity since it was first published in 1997 as The Importance of Forgiveness. John and Carol Arnott, founders of Catch The Fire, explain clearly and concisely what forgiveness is, why we need to forgive others, and how to forgive. With over a quarter of a million copies sold, this book has transformed countless Christian’s lives. Even people who have been followers of Jesus a long time and are familiar (stronger word) with the concept of forgiveness will gain new revelation and freedom by reading Grace and Forgiveness and following its simple steps. It’s a short read and well worth adding to your summer list.

A Lifestyle of Divine Encounters

God wants us to have an experiential relationship with Him that stretches beyond encounters at meetings and special events. In A Lifestyle of Divine Encounters, Patricia Bootsma mentors you in living a life centred around daily encounters with God. Patricia draws on her experience as a pastor, mentor, house of prayer leader and prophetic leader to share how to live in-step with the Holy Spirit, alongside insight into how to develop a vibrant lifestyle of prayer, prophetic, and Bible reading.

Ekklesia

In the last two years, this book has gained attention from leaders throughout Catch The Fire, with it’s focus on global transformation that starts with local churches. In Ekklesia, Ed Silvoso looks at Jesus’ original design for the church as a transformational, revoultionary force. He explains why we’ve drifted away from the way the early church lived and how the church can once again bring Kingdom change and influence across the world.

Preparing for the Glory

John and Carol Arnott’s most recent book is packed with both inspiration resources to help you prepare for revival and respond when God moves. The Arnotts share their experience leading a revival for over 20 years and their passion for God’s presence. Preparing for the Glory can be partnered with a video study, a training guide that includes devotionals and worksheets, and a leader’s guide that is useful for small group study.

When God Becomes Real

Brian Johnson, worship Pastor at Bethel church in Redding, CA, and award-winning recording artist shares his experiences with crippling anxiety and his testimony as he walked through a six-month nervous breakdown that he thought he’d never escape. When God Becomes Real is an incredible source of hope for anyone who struggles with panic and anxiety, and a great resource to help you understand and support others who struggle with mental health issues.

Running the Race

Running the Race is a guide to living life wholeheartely in pursuit of God. Ivan and Isabel Allum show you how to position yourself in God’s Word, hold onto His promises, and take part in the end-time harvest of new believers coming into the Kingdom.

Breakthrough

Breakthrough isn’t just a buzzword or a good idea, it’s how God describes himself in the Bible. In Breakthrough, Shawn Bolz shows you how to use your most powerful weapon, your voice, in prayer, prophecy, and declarations, to partner with God for breakthrough in your life, family, culture and nation. This is a short, punchy book that will immediately impact the way you live.

God’s Words to Dream On

Author Diane Stortz and illustrator Diane Le Feyer have teamed up again to produce God’s Words to Dream On, a book of bedtime Bible stories and prayers for children. It includes 52 Bible stories that will inspire young children with a love for God’s Word, along with Bible verses, prayers and blessings that are specifically put together for bedtimes. This book is not only popular with small children - the staff at Attwell Books in Toronto told us that they love the beautiful pictures and find opportunities to connect with God through the stories and blessings.

Spiritual Seasons

This book will help you recognise the spiritual season you’re in and show you how to thrive throughout life’s ups and downs. In Spiritual Seasons, Evon Horton looks at how we can access the spiritual blessings and navigate the challenges of each season, hand in hand with God. Horton uses the natural seasons, winter, spring, summer and fall as a framework for the seasons that God takes us through in the spirit. The book’s practical steps for navigating each season makes it useful for personal devotionals and time with God.
